CAS No. 50-00-0
A more efficient and rapid penetrant fixative used in combination with Glutaraldehyde and Acrolein fixatives.
Formaldehyde solution prepared from paraformaldehyde (polymerised formaldehyde). This saves much effort as the laboratory prepared material must be used on the day it's made. The product is methanol free. An excellent, rapidly penetrating fixative. May be used in combination with glutaraldehyde and acrolein fixatives, and is frequently used as an alternative to glutaraldehyde. The solution is not affected by UV light and it is preferable to not refrigerate, until buffer is added. Excellent shelf-life of over two years. Useable until precipitate occurs. Easy to break, pre-scored, 10mL ampoules sealed under inert gas. 100mL bottles available - ask
Note: Below 10% concentration this item may be shipped as non-dangerous goods and can be taken in check-in luggage on aircraft.
Some people require litre bottles. These are available on order within 1 month at similar prices as the smaller volumes; they are not a stock item.
Other concentrations are available.

Polyvinyl Formvar desiccated
For the preparation of thin support films. Soluble in chloroform, dioxane or ethylene dichloride.
An already made-up solution is also available. The small packaging exempts from the dangerous goods shipping regulations, even in multiples of 25ml.
Crystal violet, Colour Index #42555.
For use in the Gram stain; the Flemington triple stain with iodine; and Newton's crystal violet-iodine technique.
This dye was used widely as a fungicide. It is no longer sold through Chemists as it has been found to be carcinogenic. We supply Gentian violet as a laboratory dye, but it is also used in aquaria and on animals. ProSciTech Pty Ltd does not recommend its use on people.

Glutaraldehyde, Pre‐Made, Ready‐to‐Use, in Buffer.
Also available and in stock is C16539‐06 Glutaraldehyde 4% in 0.1M Sodium Cacodylate Buffer, pH 7.4 10x10mL AUD58.20
CAS # 111‐30‐8.
Vacuum distilled, free from polymer and other contaminants. Each lot has been tested and assayed. Polymers re‐form depending on storage time and temperature. Available in bottles or in pre‐scored, snap‐open, easy break amber ampoules, sealed under nitrogen. Refrigerated its shelf life is about one year, or freeze to prolong shelf life substantially. An arbitrary storage guide: deep freeze last 5 years ; fridge freezer ‐ 2 years. Fridge ‐ 1 year, room temperature a week or two.
Anhydrous glutaraldehyde (in acetone) is available, but it is a DG for shipping with a maximum shelf life of 6 months, refrigerated.

Glutaraldehyde (GA) at these concentrations were recently classified as Dangerous Goods (DG) for shipping. Shipping by air now incurs a DG cost of AUD250 to 400 (please request quote). We therefore recommend switching to prepared Paraformaldehyde (pure formalin, C004) as the primary fixative if possible, or using prepared 3% GA in buffer (not a DG). More info on shipping Glutaraldehyde.
For road shipments, the challenge is to keep materials from reaching higher temperatures, and if only for a limited time. We use insulation and plenty of ice. This is intended to extend the shelf life of the product only ‐ Glutaraldehyde at RT deteriorates slowly, and for fixation processes it does not matter if kept for several days at room temperature. The exceptions are immuno‐ and histochemistry, in which case pure formalin is probably the better fixative.
We generally ship cold items on Mondays to reduce the number of days in transit.
Please choose the appropriate ice quantity to add you your order; extra ice may be needed for larger orders.
Qld ‐ 1 kg ice
ACT, NSW, SA, Vic ‐ 2 kg ice
NT, WA, Tas ‐ unsuited for shipping by road
3% GA already made up in buffer is available in 100mL bottles and that product can be shipped by air. See C008‐B below.

No longer available in ampoules. Supplied in plastic bottles .
3% in moderate quantities is not regarded as a DG. So we can ship this by air and include less ice. Costs for ice, cooler and air shipping within Australia are included in the price. GA made up in this buffer is one way to ship GA cold to the more distant Australian cities.
