Useful procedures for cryo centrifuge tubes
All vials are made of polypropylene. Some models may contain silicone washers. They can withstand temperatures from +121°C down to -196°C. When freezing, volumes should be 10% less than listed capacity.
When filling, the cryo centrifuge tube should be filled with no more than 90% of the tube's volume (to permit expansion). Upon freezing, ensure that the entire vial is frozen at the same temperature - avoid racks that create partial insulation. The cryo centrifuge tube should be moved periodically during freezing to avoid supercooling and subsequent quick ice formation.
When freezing in liquid nitrogen, ensure that the screw cap is not overtightened. The thread and screw cap of the vial should be completely dry before closing; liquid drops will impair the seal in liquid nitrogen. Vials should be stored in the gas phase above liquid nitrogen. If they are immersed, the vials might develop leaks or even shatter when returned to temperature.
When removing vials from liquid nitrogen containers, always use safety equipment such as gloves, hoods, face shields etc. To thaw, place the vial into a water bath (37-40°C) and keep it in constant motion. As soon as the ice has melted, remove the vial from the water bath.

CRYO‐LOK vials are ideal for storage or transport of material of extremely low temperatures. The vials have external threads, providing a smooth and uniform inner surface. This eliminates the problem of air born contamination and/or sample loss so common when vials with internal threads are used. The screw top incorporates a molded‐in sealing ring, which assures a tight leak‐proof seal.

Polycarbonate, -100°C
Moulded polycarbonate boxes with positive alignment of lift-off lid versus box. Lids may be used to index specimen tubes. PC is strong and remains non-brittle in very low temperature freezers. Suitable for temperatures from -190°C to +121°C. The boxes are vented and stackable. The transparent cover allows view of contents and is numbered. The rack insert has numbered holes and may be blue, red, orange or yellow.

CRYO GRID STORAGE BOX WITH LID, ROUND
The cryo grid box is used for transferring, storing and manipulating vitrified cryo TEM specimens (i.e. on Quantifoil TEM grids) made with cryo-devices like the FEI Vitrobot, Gatan CP3, Leica EM 6P and other cryo vitrification systems. The round box is the most widely used and is suitable for the Gatan 626 and CT3500 cryo transfer systems and the FEI Vitrobot and Gatan CP3. The box has a UNC 5/40 thread in the center. The clear lid is held in place with a stainless steel screw.
The handling rod screws into the threaded centre of the round cryo grid box for pick-up and storage applications. Can be used to store the cryo grid box in liquid nitrogen.
